Assistants:

A small group of attendees was invited to this course: all the doctoral students from the NewFrac Project, and some other doctoral students and professors working in the field. In total, 18 participants took part in this course.

Lecturers:

  • Prof. Jack S. Hale, University of Luxembourg
  • Prof. Corrado Maurini, Sorbonne Université

Required Knowledge:

The course will assume basic knowledge of the theory of finite elasticity and finite element methods. It is also assumed that the students have taken the NEWFRAC Core School 2021 Basic computational methods for fracture mechanics. Basic knowledge of Python is preferable.

Course Abstract:

This one-day course is oriented to the usage of DOLFINx, the computational problem solving environment of the FEniCS Project. The focus will be on solving problems arising in solid mechanics.

Schedule:

  • 09.00-10.30 /Session 1 (1hr30m): Introduction to DOLFINX with linear elasticity
  • 10.30-10.45 /Break (15m)
  • 10.45-12.15 /Session 2 (1hr30m): Finite elasticity
  • 12.15-13.15 /Lunch (1hr)
  • 13.15-14.45 /Session 3 (1hr30m): Variational Inequalities and variational theory of fracture
  • 14.45-15.00 /Break (15m)
  • 15.00-16.30 /Session 4 (1hr30m): Variational theory of fracture

Duration: 7'5 hours
